Ashland

Located only 15 miles away from Richmond, Ashland was founded in the 1840s for a mineral springs railroad for the quickly growing areas surrounding it. When Randolph-Macon College relocated in the late 1860s, Ashland quickly became a popular college town. It is a close knit community with farm-to-table dining and locally owned shops and arts and plenty of entertainment. The Amtrak Station has a stop right in the heart of Ashland and makes it an easy destination for day trips. nearby I-95 and Route 1 allow for less than an hour’s drive to bigger cities like Richmond and Fredericksburg, earning Ashland the clever nickname “Center of the Universe.”
